After the Taliban, Iran and Afghanistan are the only countries in the world that do not allow women to attend football stadiums. Iranian women, of course, have been silent and have fought for their rights all this time. Sometimes they went to the stadium wearing men’s clothing, sometimes they were arrested and humiliated, and this time, despite buying tickets, they were treated with violence and pepper spray.
The widespread wave of protests against these government behaviors caused officials to justify these actions. FIFA’s response has not been satisfactory to a group of people so far.
What obstacles are there in the way of women achieving these basic rights?
Why does the government insist on imposing restrictions on women? And what is the solution?
